Open Data Framework for increased data interoperability
The Open Group Open Platform 3.0 Forum has announced yet ground breaking product - Open Group Data Element Framework (O-DEF). The framework can potentially eliminate the hindrances in free flow of data as faced by many organizations. Open Group claims that the O-DEF standard may soon be adopted by IT4IT standard.
The O-DEF also incorporates codes from existing international standards, for instance United Nations Standards Products and Services Codes (UNSPSC). The index of terms is comprehensive enough to assign any data element with a name and language-neutral identifier. The federated collection of core and plugins allows for building extensions and future integrations. The identifiers are also extremely compact to reduce bandwidth during data transfer. Thus, the standard may be of utility when exchanging data for smaller devices and mobile.
